Former Brooklyn cop Raymond Donne left the force five years ago due to a leg injury that still bothers him. Since leaving NYPD, Raymond became a middle schoolteacher. Currently he is very concerned about fourteen year old student Frankie “Lefty” Rivas, a baseball team pitcher who has failed to come to school in almost two weeks.

Thus he heads to Clemente Plaza in Williamsburg where Frankie and his younger sister Milagros live with their grandmother Matilda Santos. He fails to see any of them as no one answers his knock on their apartment door. Instead Raymond finds the corpse of the father of the two siblings Francisco while the kids are missing. NYPD Detective Royce gives the murder and missing children case little attention so Ray investigates hoping to find Frankie and Milagros safe; not expecting to place his family in jeopardy and he kidnapped.

Conflicted Ray (to be a cop or not be a cop that is his question) brings freshness to the storyline as he diligently works the mean streets of Brooklyn and the dangerous roads of Upstate New York in an effort to rescue the children. The storyline is fast-paced and filled with action while containing a cast of mostly Brooklyn eccentric shtick. However this is Ray’s investigation as he takes a bruising but keeps on cruising.
